Animation Technical Director

Job description:
The Animation Technical Director is responsible for designing, developing and
implementing tools that will be used studio-wide or show-specific. As needed, a
TD may be asked to do shot work. The Animation TD works closely with Production
leadership, Creatives and technical teams and may serve as a liaison between
these groups and the Pipe and IT departments.
Duties:
- Create and deploy new tools and procedures both
studio-wide and show-specific and support their adoption into the wider
pipeline
- Ensure software development follows studio policies and
guidelines
- Assist creatives by troubleshooting and fixing shots or
other critical production issues
- Do shot work or asset creation, as needed
- Research, advocate and lead in the adoption of
innovative new technical, commercial or open-source tools and libraries,
standards and best-practices to help maintain industry relevance and the
highest possible quality and efficiency
- Contribute to and maintain pipeline documentation,
examples and training materials
- Assist in training and mentoring of entry level and
associate technical directors
Requirements:
- Preferable a BS in Computer Science, Engineering,
Mathematics or equivalent
- Experience with scripting/programming in Python, Perl,
MEL and/or C/C++ a plus
- 2D and CG animation software knowledge a plus;
especially, TVPaint, Harmony, Nuke, Maya, Photoshop, Houdini and Katana
- Experience with Microsoft windows and unix/linux
environments
- Experience in optimization, debugging and software
architecture
- Experience in computer animation, visual effects or
game industry is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Aesthetic eye and/or artistic background highly desired
- Proven ability to work autonomously and in team
settings
- Ability to work shift hours as required
