THE THIRD FLOOR, Inc. is the world’s pre-eminent, Emmy Award winning visualization company with offices in Los Angeles and London as well as on location with productions around the world. For the past 12 years, the studio has helped clients visualize and maximize content by producing computer-animated blueprints, known as “previsualizations”. Recent film and television projects THE THIRD FLOOR, Inc. has worked on include The Martian, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Marvel’s Ant-Man, San Andreas, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, Maleficent, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, Guardians of the Galaxy and Game of Thrones Seasons 4 and 5.  We continue to push the boundaries of entertainment with content development for exciting cutting-edge projects.

The Third Floor is looking for Character / Facial Rigging TDs for the Los Angeles office. The Riggers must demonstrate an understanding of sculpture and animation in order to create user-friendly, intuitive character rigs for animators.


Responsibilities:
  • Interface with animators to maintain an understanding of their workflow needs.
  • Ensure that the deformation of skinned geometry maintains appeal of character designs.
  • Model appealing facial expressions.
  • Construct rigs with Unreal Engine specifications in mind.
  • Create, test, and maintain rig-integrated character dynamics systems.
  • Develop a working knowledge of existing rig building and production tools.
  • Adhere to established departmental rigging standards.
  • Collaborate with other Rigging TDs to improve upon existing rigging methods.
  • Implement changes and complete rigs in accordance with production schedule.
  • Maintain an open and professional demeanor regarding direction, changes and shifting requirements.
Required Skills:
  • 2+ years professional production experience as a Character Technical Director or Rigger/Technical Animator on film, television, or game projects using Maya.
  • Reel demonstrating technical mastery of character rigging and dynamics fundamentals as well as aesthetic principles of character design.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize own workflow for enhanced productivity.
  • Broad understanding of human and animal anatomy.
  • Sculpting, modeling experience a plus.
  • Facility with Maya Python and/or PyMEL.
  • Strong desire to provide top-notch, responsive technical services to in-house animation clients.
  • Excellent time-management skills.
Desired Skills: 
  • Previous experience with Golaem.
  • Previous experience with the Unreal Engine.
