About The Opportunity:  The Lytro Cinema post-production team is growing and we are looking for a talented and experienced VFX / Digital Effects Supervisor to lead the internal R&D VFX team.  This is a leadership role, and you will be instrumental in defining the on-set and post-production workflows for Lytro Cinema, and in making our first customers successful with our technology.  Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Provide artistic and technical guidance to artists from concept to final composite; ensure best practices, including approving and modifying techniques.
  • Act as a hands-on internal expert for our post-production tools in Nuke, evaluating tools at all points in the development lifecycle (pre-alpha through release) and articulating how they can be extended and improved.
  • Be the advocate for any artist using Lytro’s tools on-set or in post-production, paying particular attention to the integration of Light Field technology into third-party tools and overall artistic workflow.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to guarantee a sucessful on-set and post-production experience.
  • Break down, estimate, and track work on compositing and/or VFX sequences with creative team.
  • Stay ahead of the curve on the latest industry research and software/hardware.  
  • Research and develop new technology and techniques.
  • Provide software demonstrations as necessary for customers, investors, and the press.

Required Skills & Experience :

  • 6+ years of experience driving and overseeing the creation of digital and visual effects for film, commercials or television.
  • Keen ability to articulate the needs of Filmmakers, VFX Supervisors and creatives to inform our post-production process and workflows.
  • A deep understanding of 3D animation software and the invention of visual effects.
  • Expert in Nuke compositing.
  • A powerful grasp of current filmmaking techniques.
  • Proven experience collaborating with artists and engineers alike.
  • Experience with Shotgun, RV, Maya, and other software applications.
  • Solid knowledge of color pipelines, VFX production process, rotoscoping, and compositing 2D, 2.5D, and CG elements, set extensions, etc.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with cloud rendering.
