Cloud Imperium Games is looking for a Character Artist to join us in our Los Angeles studio!
We are looking for a talented and experienced Character Artist to work with cross-studio team members on characters for our game Star Citizen!
Sample pictures or portfolio link, which shows sample work are necessary.
Portfolio or demo reel should demonstrate:
• Highpoly character models and their conversion into lowpoly models (strong understanding of the normal map creation process & PBR)
• Ability to create game ready assets, that work well within the given technical limitations
• Very strong texturing skills and excellent knowledge of Mari or Substance Painter
• Keen eye on detail and realism
• A strong sense for composition, color and light
Responsibilities:
• Creating highpoly and lowpoly models of characters following concept art or art direction for ingame and cinematic usage with nominal direction from Senior and/or Lead Artists
• Creating efficient UV layouts that work well within the engine/platform constrains
• Photorealistic texturing of characters which includes diffuse, normal map, specular, bump
• Working closely with Tech Art and other dependent departments throughout the character production process
Requirements:
• 3+ years professional game production experience
• Previous experience creating high quality characters for AAA games
• Thorough knowledge of the game development process
• Shipped (from pre-production to release) 1, large scale, 3D title (PC, current/next-gen consoles)
• Good understanding of anatomy, and representing anatomy in topology
• Demonstrating a strong ability to create believable photorealistic characters within a game engine
• The ability to create game ready assets that work well within the given technical limitations
• Strong knowledge of 3DS Max, Maya, Mari or Substance Painter
• Proficiency in Z-Brush or Mudbox
• Passion for pushing the state of the art in asset fidelity and production techniques
• Keep a positive team-oriented attitude
• Be proactive and self-motivated, work without direct supervision
• Ability to complete tasks within given time constraints
• Excellent English communication and written skills
Pluses:
• Knowledge with CryENGINE
• Experience with facial anatomy and topology for cinematic level character animation
• Knowledge of additional software such as Marvelous Designer, Substance Painter
• Scripting ability in either Max script or Python
• Traditional life drawing with numerous life drawing examples in the portfolio
