Technical Director, Character Effects/Crowds
SUMMARY:
Uses proprietary and 3rd-party tools to produce finished crowds animation for shots and sequences and develops or refines systems to support crowds animation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for design, implementation, or completion of crowd dressing, motion, and/or rendering in production shots and sequences
- May adapt character models to the needs of crowd animation or build crowd characters
- May create, debug, or modify systems to facilitate crowd-level animation
- Works in a team environment to determine various design and technical solutions
- Coordinates with other team members on integrating and optimizing the crowds process with the balance of the production pipeline
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Computer Science, Visual Effects or a related area
- Thorough knowledge of 3D computer graphics techniques
- Strong aesthetic sense of animation, crowds, or effects timing
Successful applicants may also have some or all of the following:
- Experience in film or television effects, simulation, or creature effects
- Working knowledge of Houdini, Massive, or Golaem
- Experience with RenderMan and/or Katana
- Scripting experience (e.g., in Python)
- Character modeling or rigging experience
