Layout Artist

SUMMARY:

We are looking for a strong, innovative Layout Artist (on a short-term basis) who can create sequences of shots that visually tell the story through the application of traditional filmmaking principles using Pixar’s proprietary animation software. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish the composition, character staging and camera movement for each shot
• Pose and animate characters simply and effectively to help convey the intent of a shot
• Able to design and structure shots in continuity to help best tell the story
• Provide clean technical set-up of shots for downstream production departments

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years of experience as a Layout Artist on animated feature, or cinematographer on live action feature
• Proven artistic skills in cinematography, including a strong sense of composition, staging, and camera language
• Understand basic concepts of character animation and character posing
• Be organized and technically proficient
• Be able to take direction and be willing to address constructive feedback
• Have good communication and problem-solving skills
• Camera polish experience a plus
• Be able to deliver on schedule, working efficiently under pressure
• Willing to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends) and/or overtime on short notice

TYPES OF MATERIAL YOUR REEL SHOULD CONTAIN:

• Whenever possible, please include rough layout footage rather than final rendered film clips as it gives us a better idea of your involvement in the work
• We prefer to see blocks of shots in continuity (whether a full sequence or a section of one) and not just single shots from different parts of a film -- this allows us to see your sequential storytelling skills and how you piece shots together
