Compositing Developer/TD

Purpose of the job:

The Compositing Developer/Technical Director works with peers and supervisors to craft novel compositing tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current project and advance the capabilities of the facility. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of compositing, color theory, software design, graphics, and production work flow.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Design and create tools using a combination of custom libraries and the Nuke, Python, TCL, and C++ APIs
  • Integrate new tools into Digital Domain’s existing pipeline, using a combination of Python, C++, and the aforementioned APIs
  • Work with Compositing Supervisor(s) and Senior Compositors to customize tool set and work flow for a given project
  • Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project
  • Work with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems arising in the Technical Director’s area(s) of expertise
  • Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated by the Technical Director
  • Remain informed of current technologies in the Technical Director’s field(s) of expertise 
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years experience as a Technical Director for Feature Films
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience
  • Firm understanding of Color Science
  • Proficiency with Nuke
  • Proficiency with Python and Tcl, PyQt experience a plus
  • Proficiency with C++ a plus
  • Proficiency with Nuke’s Python interface, Nuke SDK experience a plus
  • Proficiency with and experience in compositing 
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Office working environment
  • Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs.
  • Walking/bending/sitting.
