About the Position

DHX Studios – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Art Director to join our 3D team. As an Art Director, you will play a key role in controlling the overall visual direction in a production. Working closely with clients, you will create cutting-edge, appealing and fresh new looks for each show, by infusing them with the latest trends in design. Responsibilities

• Establish and refine the production style
• Develop and oversee production-specific style guides
• Directly contribute to production design, and collaborate with clients on designs that need special direction
• Provide detailed direction to the Design team and contribute to their growth and development by understanding their needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses
• Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
• Collaborate with VFX and modeling departments to ensure render style matches the art direction of the production
• Attend breakdown meetings and provide input from the Art Department
• Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables
• Identify potential issues and use creative problem solving to find the best solutions
• Identify actions necessary to achieve task completion and obtain results within the production timeline and budget
• Adapt traditional methods, concepts, models, designs, technologies and systems to new applications
• Devise new approaches to improve current processes and workflow
• Assist in guiding artists’ overall professional development by providing constructive criticism, wisdom, guidance, and feedback
• Set goals for others that can be achieved using available resources within projected timelines
• Assist with identifying the appropriate staffing levels and needs
• Assist the HR and Talent Acquisition departments in the development of job descriptions, sourcing of candidates as well as the candidate selection process

Qualifications

• 2+ years of art direction experience in animation or television OR equivalent experience
• BA/BFA degree in fine arts or commercial arts field an asset
• Solid understanding of the translation from 2D artwork to 3D models
• Strong experience in 3D design for animation is a must
• Very strong artistic skills
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
• Experience in leading strategic brainstorming sessions, creative brief development, and creative execution
• Experience in supervising and training, as well as strong leadership qualities
• Ability to identify strengths and weakness of a design team
• Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of production
• Ability to set priorities for yourself and others, as well as manage the progress of work
• Team-oriented with a proactive approach to work
