Software Development Manager

Description

Rising Sun Pictures is currently seeking an experienced Software Development Manager / Head of Production Technology to develop, manage and deliver our core software Pipeline for the delivery of projects. Exceptional leadership and project management skills are considered critical qualities for successful applicants of this role.

Employment period: This is a long-term position with an immediate start.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.


Position Overview
Our pipeline consists of multiple off the shelf software - Maya, Houdini, Arnold, Nuke and others, spanning multiple workstation and compute nodes, principally running Linux and Open Source software. The Pipeline team is comprised of 10 developers, than design and deploy the systems, bringing together these tools into a coherent workflow which underpins our ability to deliver cutting edge visuals for projects such as X-Men, Alien and Thor: Ragnarok.

This position is responsible for the vision, implementation, research and maintenance of company software development tasks, while ensuring all plans are made with consideration of future growth, and align with company strategy and direction. In this role, you will be responsible for outlining and implementing an approach which represents the most efficient way to execute work. You will work closely with creative and technical supervisors, who will provide experience, insight and advice; highlighting areas of concern and improvement as needed.

Ever conscious of client and stakeholder requirements, the software development manager creates and executes the software development strategy required to meet the rapidly evolving needs of visual effects production. The software development manager leads the pipeline team, and is responsible for creating and maintaining appropriate levels of capacity to fulfil the company's production requirements.


Responsibilities

• Working with key stakeholders, define the software development strategy and key milestones for the company and proactively drive global efficiencies
• Implement the software development strategy
• Implement best practices and set quality standards for development processes and procedures
• Manage diverse software development projects and maintain team resources
• Keep internal clients of the status of software development projects, through regular updates
• Provide support and documentation of all internally developed software and maintain communication with external software vendors
• Working with key staff throughout the company, implement and maintain structured research and development
• Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace, influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic, through exceptional leadership and communication.

• Minimum 10+ years experience working in senior software development positions
• Minimum 5+ years experience in leading and managing a department of software developers
• Experience running change management projects
• High level of experience as an agile scrum master
• In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of industry best practice and trends
• Confident with programming tools such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systems
• Expert level knowledge of writing code in Python, plus other programming languages such as C++, and MEL Scripting
• Experience using unix based operating systems such as Linux and OS X
• Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a deadline focused work environment.
