USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Systems Administrator II to join its Creative Technology team.
The
Systems Administrator II will be a member of the engineering team
responsible for designing, building and maintaining core servers, core
services, storage, networks and workstations for the School of Cinematic
Arts. The candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of Windows, Mac
and Linux servers and desktop computers as well as advanced experience
managing a VM-based infrastructure.
Experience with advanced
technology in the entertainment industry and systems engineering
experience in the entertainment industry (production, post-production,
visual effects, animation, gaming) is highly desired.
The
successful candidate should be a self-starter with a passion for
technology and a demonstrated ability to deep-dive into advanced
systems-level issues, take full ownership of a project or problem until
it is fully completed, actively monitor system status, and learn new
technologies.
The ideal candidate should possess:
Systems administrator or systems engineering experience in the following areas:
- Core
services: Active Directory, LDAP, NTP, DNS, DHCP, networking, user
access control, authentication (including two-factor), on-site and
off-site security, SSL certificate management, VPN and remote access,
firewalls, web servers, database servers, wiki and knowledgebase servers
(including Sharepoint), SQL, ticketing systems, collaboration tools.
- Data
center administration: physical, virtual and cloud-based servers
(Windows Server 2008/2012, Mac OS X server, Linux, VMware vCenter,
OpenStack, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure), system monitoring tools
(nagios, sassafras, wireshark).
- Storage administration:
high-performance and high-availability RAID, NAS, SAN and Avid storage
systems, performance tuning, backup management, disaster recovery
(AppAssure, vSphere Data Protection, on-site and off-site backups).
- Desktop
OS Deployment: Group Policies, Windows Deployment Services, SCCM,
DeployStudio, JAMF, munki, puppet, chef, salt, dual-boot and triple-boot
systems.
- Programming: batch script, powershell, shell script,
Visual Basic, python, perl, Java, Java Script, C++, HTML, C#, hardware
control programming.
Preferred experience:
5 years of systems experience, including experience with advanced technology used in the entertainment industry, such as:
- High
performance computing: on-site and cloud-based rendering and queue
management (Backburner, Deadline, Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google
Zync).
- Software Licensing: Avid Licensing, NetHasp, FlexLM, RLM, mhost, lmtools, dongles.
- Software Development Servers and IDEs: Perforce, SVN, GIT, Jira, Mercurial.
- Post-production,
VFX, animation and gaming software including Avid, Adobe. Creative
Cloud, Autodesk (Maya, Motionbuilder, 3DS Max, mel scripting), Cinema4D,
Nuke, Mari, Unity, Unreal, game engines, Netmix, Soundminer.
- Post-production,
VFX, animation and gaming hardware and tools used for motion capture,
AR, VR, (optitrack, motionbuilder, Oculus, Vive, Jaunt, Hololens,
Google), gaming hardware, multi-player game servers and game computing.
- Control and Access systems: AMX, Lutron, Lenel, Omnilock.
- Projectors and Theatre control systems.
- Inventory management and tools (Wasp Inventory).
This position may require working on evenings or weekends as needed. Occasional out of town travel may be necessary.
The pay rate for this position is $30.76 - $33.33 hourly
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 2 years
Minimum
Field of Expertise: Intermediate understanding of and experience with
systems administration, backups, operating systems programming languages
and associated hardware platforms.
