Arts Laboratory Specialist

The School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a dynamic Arts Lab Specialist to oversee the usage and maintenance of the Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts stages and television station.  USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is considered one of the premier film schools in the country and works on the cutting edge of technology in media production and post-production.

The Arts Lab Specialist oversees the usage and maintenance of the film and television stages.  This includes equipment check-in/check-out and providing tutorials on the proper use of equipment and facilities.  This role provides specialized technical expertise to support students and assists guest artists in the proper handling of technical equipment.

The Arts Lab Specialist provides advice on stage setup and contributes to the development of studio procedures while remaining complaint with health and professional safety standards.  This position interfaces with service vendors and suppliers and will work with them to maintain the stages’ functions.

Additionally, the Arts Lab Specialist oversees the scheduling of the Trojan Vision television stages and the timesheets for the students that work on Trojan Vision.

This position performs other related duties as assigned or requested.  The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Essential duties of this position includes (but are not limited to):

  • Providing tutorials to faculty, staff, and students in the proper use of the equipment and stages.
  • Maintaining stage schedules and approving timesheets for campus television station’s student workers.
  • Maintaining quality of all the stages at the Zemeckis Center, including stage preparation for classes.
  • Training and overseeing students in proper equipment check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Conducting inspections and securing Zemeckis Center and the adjoining facility at closing time.
  • Maintaining equipment inventory.
  • Scheduling equipment and stages to meet the needs of the students and faculty.

Experience working in a film or television environment, especially working on stages either/or for live or filmed production is highly preferred.

This is an evening position – Monday-Friday, 2:30pm-11:00pm. The hiring range for this position is $20.51 - $21.82 hourly.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Specialized, progressively responsible experience and training in applicable performing or visual arts.
