Rigging Supervisor

Description

The position of Rigging Supervisor requires someone with an extensive knowledge of 3D software and is an expert in industry standard software packages such as Maya and how they apply to Rigging. A thorough understanding of the rigging principles and pipeline is essential with experience in the development and maintenance of rigging pipelines.

Successful applicants will have a solid understanding of the production process, strong motivational qualities, be a proven team leader and have excellent communication and organisational skills. They will be highly organized and technically astute.

 

Key Areas of responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and Manage the BBF Rigging pipeline with a primary focus on maximising efficiency, scalability and reliability.
  • Provide leadership and support for the in-house and external Rigging Team
  • Support external production companies in their use of the BBF Rigging pipeline.
  • Identify and outline Rigging bottlenecks and deficiencies, technical or otherwise, to the CG Supervisor, Producers and Pipeline team. Propose and Implement solutions.
  • Clearly and concisely document and communicate the Rigging procedures, workflows and standards to the CG team and on the BBF Wiki.
  • Supervise the Lead Riggers. Ensure they partner effectively with Production Management and they deliver on their goals.
  • Partner with HR in the recruitment of the Rigging team.
  • Promote and Facilitate effective communication between the 3D Supervisors, Lead Riggers and Production Management.
  • Partner with CG Supervisor and Production management to facilitate the career growth of the key talent within the Rigging Department.
  • Partner with CG Supervisor and Pipeline team to determine appropriate use of applications and Tools as they apply to the Rigging pipeline for the various CG Productions, either in development or as they are phased into the productions.
  • Rig assets as required.
  • Attend Pipeline and Supervisor meetings.
  • Train rigging crew when required.

Person Specification/Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience in a supervisory capacity on a CG production or similar role.
  • Experience in development and maintenance of Rigging/compositing pipelines.
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Comfortable with clear communication, dialogue and follow through with external studios.
  • Proficient in Rigging in Maya
  • Software development experience, preferably python.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Task Driven, self-motivated, and proactive to problem solving and technical troubleshooting.
  • Open to direction
  • Experience with an asset tracking/management system.
  • Experience of Animation ‘outsource & offshore’ production models is a big plus
