Payroll Manager

Purpose of the job:      

We are looking for a Payroll Manager to lead our payroll functions. You will work to ensure our payroll expenses and taxes are paid correctly and on time. Our ideal candidate is analytical and methodical, with experience in payroll administration and deep knowledge of payroll regulations. We also value integrity, team spirit and strong organizational skills. Your goal will be to ensure our payroll procedures are compliant, efficient and current.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Manage payroll activities such as recording of work hours, processing time records, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payrolls.
  • Will manage one to two payroll accountants (US and Canada)
  • Partner with Accounting/Finance to maintain the general ledger interface and produce management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Review personnel records to determine names, pay rates, and position titles of new hires as well as changes in wage rates and occupations of employees on payroll. Maintain the Employee Information System.
  • Adjust payroll errors and respond to complaints.
  • Respond to notifications from state agencies and others regarding unemployment claims.
  • Assist Human Resources with salary administration issues.
  • Maintain 401K reporting for discrimination testing.
  • Maintain information for Workmen’s Compensation and 401K audits.
  • Administer HRIS/Payroll System.
  • Track vacation and sick leave accruals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or related field required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
  • 5+ years work experience in payroll working with multiple locations, ideally in the US and Canada.
  • Expert user of ADP Workforce.
  • Working knowledge of ADP Pay eXpert Ver2 preferred.
  • Should be an intermediate Excel user.
  • Oracle experience great desired.

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:  

  • Ability to maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations and integrity by keeping information confidential.
  • An analytical mind and excellent math skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen eye for detail.
  • Current knowledge of payroll procedures.
  • Ability to apply common sense and a thorough understanding of federal, state and local laws as they apply to payroll processing.
  • Ability to calculate commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tax rules a plus.
  • Familiarity with multi state tax rules a plus.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:  

  • Office working environment.
  • Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs.
  • Walking/bending/sitting.
