Texture Artist, 3D


Want to make some amazing animation with remarkably talented teams in a fun and welcoming studio? DHX Media – Halifax is looking for an experienced Texture Artist to join our team!

Do you have a passion for all things textured and realizing a creative vision?

Do you have 2 years of production experience?

As a Texture Artist, you have a keen eye for detail and love innovation as you implement or "paint" surface texturing on animated characters, props and environments. In addition to understanding various software and applications, you have solid artistic chops and live and breathe colour, composition, detail, form and scale. You are an integral part of the visual creative team, working with various members of the production including the Art Director, Episodic Directors, CG Supervisors, Designers, Lead Texture artists, and Modelers to execute the desired look of CG objects. You respect the parameters of production and can do your best work under deadline conditions. 


  • Shade and texture assets based on the production style, designs and color scripts
  • Collaborate with modeling team to ensure assets meet production look and requirements
  • Build and optimize each asset's shading networks to achieve both look and efficient render time
  • Interpret and implement notes and feedback from supervisor and directors in a timely way
  • Collaborate across disciplines, within the department and with other departments including design, lighting, and matte painting
  • Work with shading TD's to develop the look of our proprietary shaders
  • Help create and maintain the production shader library
  • Mentor and train other shading artists
  • Collaborate respectfully and professionally with artists
  • Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
  • Keep current on shading techniques and technology
  • Recommend any team training needs to texturing supervisor
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team 



  • 2+ years of experience in animation or film industry
  • Proficiency in using Maya and Photoshop is required
  • Strong artistic skills and a detail-oriented eye
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Good communication skills, active listening, and ability to give and receive feedback and follow direction
  • Work within production requirements and time frame
  • Accepts accountability for own actions
  • Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Encourage feedback and new initiatives
  • Able to adapt to multiple show styles
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change



  • Experience in ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Quixel
  • Experience in shading using Renderman
  • Familiarity with modeling, lighting and shading
