The Department of Art at William
Paterson University’s College of the Arts and Communication invites
applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant
Professor, with a specialization in Animation and Game Design. Start date is
September 1, 2018.
The successful candidate applicant will join a dynamic department poised for growth through its
Center for New Art, where traditional and emerging modalities in the creative
process are utilized across disciplines in our state of the arts studio and maker
spaces. Tenure track faculty responsibilities include but are not limited to pedagogy,
service, creative expression and professional growth.
The position requires a strong
knowledge and proficiency in 3D animation production, interactivity, design and
technology that also includes a broad understanding of video
games, graphic programming for game and app development, video
editing, interactive media and digital media as an art form. Experience
in Autodesk Maya, with skills in 3D modeling, technical direction, effects
animation, lighting and rendering, including game design with Unity
or similar Maya compatible software, compositing, and interactive design are
required. Ability
to teach foundation classes in drawing, 2D or 3D design
essential.
Additional skills in Autodesk Mudbox,
Z-Brush, experience with virtual and/or augmented reality
and 2D traditional animation considered a plus.
The successful candidate will teach
courses in foundation and within the Animation and Multimedia concentration in
the undergraduate program, participate in departmental meetings in addition to
service on committees, which include undergraduate and graduate, as well as University
and College wide committees. In addition to pedagogy, the successful candidate
will maintain an active professional practice and/or exhibition agenda.
Qualified candidates will possess
an MFA degree with industry experience and an established record of professional
achievement. Three (3) years teaching experience at the university level
is preferred. We encourage practice across all media and technology using a
variety of materials in the visual arts, integrating new and emerging areas of
art making, which supports our progressive curriculum. The department seeks a
collaborative developmental approach in the expansion of curricular programs
consistent with the goals of the strategic plan of William Paterson University
and the College of the Arts and Communication.
