Assistant Professor in 3D Character Animation

The University of Hawai‘i  at Manoa, Academy for Creative Media (ACM) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month,  tenure-track Assistant Professor in 3D Character Animation, appointment to begin August 1, 2018, pending position clearance and availability of funds. Position # 0070059. Applicants should have a significant background in character animation, an excellent understanding of animation principles and the ability to express ideas through drawing as evidenced in their animation reel and portfolio. Candidates must be able to teach classes in 3D character animation, 3D modeling, animation principles and animation filmmaking. Applicants must have a significant amount of professional animation experience in film and/or television and evidence of successful university-level teaching experience. Duties: (1) Teach classes, advise students, undertake creative/scholarly work, and develop curriculum and opportunities in the specialty areas of 3D Character Animation and Animation Filmmaking; (2) Develop and supervise internships, group projects, and individual projects; (3) Undertake departmental, university, and professional service; actively participate in community outreach;  (4) Develop and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships with relevant programs such as Computer Science; (5) Other duties as assigned by chair. Minimum Qualifications: (1) PhD, MFA, or suitable terminal degree in an appropriate area;  (2) Significant professional character animation experience and evidence of creative work in 3D character animation; (3) A high level of skill in the application of animation principles and character animation performance as evidenced in animation reel and portfolio; (4) Evidence of successful university-level teaching. Desirable Qualifications:  (1) Evidence of ability in 3D Modeling; (2) Evidence of professional work in video games; (3) Evidence of well-developed drawing skills;  (4) Established relationships with independent filmmakers or industry content producers in either animated films or video games; (5) Evidence of ability in 2D traditional animation, 2D digital animation or stop motion animation; (6) Experience with animation software such as: Unity, Maya, Toonboom, Adobe Animate, Adobe After Effects, Blender; (7) Evidence of work with new media processes including Virtual Reality and 3D printing.
