Instructor or Lecturer, Animation

Job Description
The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure earning instructor or lecturer position anticipated to begin in August 2018. SVAD seeks a candidate with a balance of technical and theoretical foundations. The successful candidate will play an important role in the School of Visual Arts and Design’s two animation tracks, Character Animation and Experimental Animation. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles and elements of design. Core areas will include 2D/3D animation, 3D modeling, texturing, traditional animation, stop motion, rendering and compositing, production development and design, post production, storytelling, understanding of principles of filmmaking, and understanding of foley and music to enhance visual language. The principal duties of this position include teaching a four-course load per semester and service. 

Position Minimum Qualifications 
• Master’s degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (e.g., M.F.A. or Ph.D. in an appropriate field) (for a lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by the time of hire. Appropriate disciplines include digital art, film, animation, the fine arts, or a media-related discipline.
• Candidates should have at least one year of relevant industry production experience.

Preferences
Candidates with teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education. Additionally, teaching experience in one or more of the following software is helpful: AutoDesk Maya, Adobe Creative Cloud, or Nuke editing software such as Premiere Pro or After Effects. Additional understanding of traditional and digital sculpting, Pro Tools, and the production pipeline is encouraged.

Special Conditions
This position is based downtown at UCF’s Center for Emerging Media, which will anchor the new UCF Downtown campus, scheduled to open in fall 2019. The new campus will be home to 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students to study degree programs that align with emerging industries, within walking distance of jobs and internships.
