Job Description
The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks three assistant professors for research and teaching in digital media. These are nine-month, tenure-earning positions that include teaching, research, and service-based duties. The anticipated start date is August 2018.

Research and teaching responsibilities include contributing to the mission of digital media in appropriate areas of scholarship. Appropriate specializations may include areas such as virtual/augmented/mixed reality, physical computing, wearable or ubiquitous computing, mobile development, web design, interactive media development, or other areas within digital media.

SVAD is a large, diverse unit with approximately 3,000 majors and minors in the following areas of study: animation, architecture, art history, digital media, film, game design, graphic design, information design, applied design, and studio art.

UCF offers the following degrees: Architecture (B.Des.), Art (B.S., B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A.), Digital Media (B.A., M.A., and M.F.A.), and Film (B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A.). The school encourages multidisciplinary collaborations. Faculty members are expected to actively pursue and obtain external funding and to develop projects that achieve peer reviewed recognition for innovation and excellence.

Position Minimum Qualifications 
At the time of appointment, applicants must hold a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution. Candidates should demonstrate an evolving body of published research, creative work, and/or conference presentations in a relevant area. Candidates should possess teaching experience or demonstrated evidence of teaching-related activities, such as workshops, training, or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Preferences
Preference for candidates who are either 1) proficient in modern scripting languages for development on one or more platforms, such as web, mobile, or games; or 2) have experience and skills related to digital arts and aesthetic design. The ideal candidates will show evidence of being a theorist and practitioner, with a demonstrated sustainable research agenda related to digital media. Preference will be given to candidates who have a record of obtaining research funding.
