CREATURE PUPPET TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Weta Digital's internationally renowned Creatures Team has been responsible for bringing some of the most memorable creatures to screen in recent years.

We are currently looking for a Creature Puppet TD.

Applicants should be experienced and passionate about rigging both organic & inorganic puppets. They should have experience and interest in developing puppet related frameworks & tools.

Working in an agile team environment a Creature Puppet TD is responsible for developing robust rigging modules, puppets, and associated puppet tools. They need to be interested in pushing the envelope and learning new tools. They will need to focus on optimisation, performance and quality solutions.

Understanding and maintain good working relationships with puppet consuming departments is important to ensure deliverables are of a consistently high quality and match the agreed specification. The successful applicant will work closely with animation leads & supervisors to define the specification of puppet behaviour & functionality. There will also be close collaboration with other Creature TDs to ensure modules create anatomically correct results (where applicable). Applicants must have a keen understanding of linear algebra and be able to apply their understanding to produce highly optimised puppets.

Must have experience with:

• Organic & inorganic puppet module development
• Python
• C++
• Qt (ideally Qt 5)
• Linear algebra
• Debugging
• Continuous integration & unit testing
• 5 years or more as a full-time creature TD/rigging TD/lead on feature films, or a CS degree
• Autodesk Maya
• Linux

Nice to have: - Animation experience

Applicants must be willing to relocate to the South Pacific island of New Zealand
