Digital Art and Design Faculty - Kendall
College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids,
Michigan is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Digital
Art and Design. As a KCAD faculty
member, you will engage in three kinds of professional development: continuous
improvement in teaching effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly contribution
within your discipline, and a college service commitment that includes committee
work and community engagement for the advancement of KCAD’s mission. You will
assist with advising students regarding their academic plan and progress as
well as their co-curricular and post-graduation opportunities. Digital Art and Design graduates will be
innovative artists and designers, well prepared to create rich media
experiences that combine imaging, animation, sound and interactivity. This teaching assignment with the BFA in
Digital Art and Design program focuses in 2D Motion Design, 3D Motion Design,
and Video Production. The Digital Art and Design program includes curriculum in
2D Animation, 3D Game Art, Visual Development, Interaction Design, and Motion
Design as well as a course in animation and medical illustration.
Full-time, tenure-track faculty members at KCAD teach 18 semester credit
hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each fall and spring semester. Required Education: Master of Fine Arts degree or a terminal
degree in an art and/or design field related to content being taught. Required Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years of a combination of recent
relevant professional industry experience in 2D motion design, 3D motion
design, and video production. Required Skills: Proficiency in industry standard
motion design and video production software, hardware and production processes;
proficiency in industry standard conceptual development for motion design and
video; experience in the mentoring/training of motion design and video
production techniques; ability to adapt to a variety of 2D and 3D motion design
and video software.
Preferred skills: Experience with current software including After Effects, Premiere,
Cinema 4D, Modo, ZBrush, and Audio; understanding of accessibility and universal design practices; and ability to engage in evidence-based assessment.
KCAD
was established in 1928 by Helen Miller Kendall, the wife of David Wollcott
Kendall, a nationally known furniture designer. KCAD’s more than 1,200 students
are a blend of dynamic personalities that form a vibrant community with a
passion for all things creative. The College’s strong alumni network includes a
multitude of successful entrepreneurs, professional artists and individuals
employed by industry-leading companies and organizations. The College currently
offers 17 undergraduate and five graduate programs in specialized and
overlapping areas of art and design as well as continuing studies. Grand Rapids
Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) merged with KCAD in 2013 and
serves as a vital resource for the College as well as continuing in its role as
the premier venue for contemporary art in the region.
