Technical Artist

Description

We are currently seeking to fill a Technical Artist role to strengthen our current team in digital visualization and design. In this role you will be part of the CertainTeed R&D platforms, to help CertainTeed to leverage digital tools as well as finding and exploring new opportunities for design and communication of a large variety of products. You will focus on finding the best way to represent a product artistically and technically as well as setting up various workflows and automation methods adapted to each situation.

The successful candidate will use their technical, artistic and soft skills to be an active contributor, an enthusiastic learner and a support for change in an intellectual environment comprising colleagues from diverse fields of design, science, and engineering.

Primary responsibility includes:

  • Demonstrated ability to define and manage projects and work under minimal supervision.

  • Collaborating closely and identifying synergies with other CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain R&D centers.

  • Communicating clearly technical issues, approaches, and results in technical reports and presentations

  • Creating artistic content to support visualization with good understanding of the underlying goal.

  • Proposing and driving methods, solutions and tools inspired from the best practices in other industries.

  • Experiment new methods to reproduce and create appearance in link with the physical properties of the materials used across CertainTeed.

  • Developing and implementing digital tools including appearance capture, procedural material creation, automatic asset management and modification, converting digital designs to the physical world. As well as building and maintaining graphical user interfaces for these tools.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
  • Excellence in graphic arts (2D and 3D, Adobe creative suite, 3DsMax, substance) as demonstrated by portfolio

  • Expertise in rendering techniques: texturing, lighting, physically based rendering, physically correct rendering engines and their limitations.

  • Scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, maxscript, shading languages) and ability to overcome technical challenges in various ways.

  • A familiarity with Unity or Unreal is appreciated

  • Strong communication and organizational skills and a deep interest to understand expressed and latent needs as well as long term opportunities.

  • Entrepreneurial ability to understand a problem and champion and/or work independently on a solution.

  • Enthusiasm for learning and trying new things

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
  • BS degree with 3 years’ experience, or an entry level MS candidate in 2D/3D art, design, or computer science

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with all levels of management, customers, an colleagues
