Description
The University of the Arts seeks an Assistant Professor for
the Animation program with a preferred emphasis in traditional hand drawn
animation, and an interest in developing 1–2 of other areas of expertise: 3D
computer, stop-motion, or experimental. Located in the College of Art, Media
and Design, the Animation program is part of an innovative, interdisciplinary
curriculum within the School of Film that includes programs in Film + Video,
Writing For Film + Television and Film Design + Production.
Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. Screening
for this position will begin January 20, 2018 and continue until the position
is filled.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach
a range of subjects from beginning to advanced levels as well as develop
syllabi for new courses and contribute ideas for the evolving nature of
existing courses.
- Maintain
a professional animation practice; serve on university committees; advise
students; participate in curriculum development and other departmental
activities.
- Candidates
should be able to develop syllabi for new courses, contribute ideas for
the evolving nature of existing courses, and teach their courses as an
ensemble with other instructors to create learning communities.
- Encourage
students to be creative and inventive while they develop a solid technical
competency serving them well in both professional and independent
animation practices.

Qualifications:
- Master
of Fine Arts in Animation or a related field of motion will be considered.
Equivalent professional experience will be considered in exceptional
cases.
- All
candidates should have a strong mastery of traditional animation
techniques and principles with the ability to adapt this knowledge into
evolving platforms.
- The
college is seeking candidates with professional experience. A current
animation industry/production history is helpful.
