Dongseo University Faculty Openings in Digital Contents

The Division of Digital Contents in Im Kwon Taek College of Film and Media Arts at Dongseo University(DSU), Busan, Korea is accepting applications for two available full time, tenure track positions in Animation and Visual Effects. The expected date of appointment is March 1, 2018.

2. Qualifications

  [Animation]

  1. Minimum Qualifications
    - Applicants with a PhD in a related field are preferred, though applicants with an MA may be considered. Relevant professional experience and certifications may also be considered
    - Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator
    - Expertise in 3D modeling/sculpting package (Maya, Max, ZBrush) with 3D conceptual art creation skills
    - Experiences in MMO and/or RPG games development/or animation movie development

  2. Preferred Qualifications

    - Should have undergraduate and/or graduate level university teaching experience

    - Should be able to create high quality concept art that includes animation, gameplay shots, characters, objects, architecture and environments, user interface, etc., in a range of art styles

    - Should be able to create illustrations, character concepts, environments and backgrounds in collaboration with other faculty members

  3. Duties and responsibilities

    - Teach a range of animation courses from a menu of beginning to advanced classes including animation concept design and character design

    - Advise/mentor students in creative research and professional development

    - Collaborate with colleagues to develop teaching methods for multinational students

    - Research and service to the university, department and profession

  1. Minimum Qualifications

    - Applicants with a PhD in a related field are preferred, though applicants with an MA may be considered. Relevant professional experience and certifications may also be considered

    - Proficiency in Maya and Nuke

    - Experiences in lighting skills using Maya

    - Expertise in 3D compositing skills using Nuke

    - Experiences in visual effects Movie/film/CF development

  2. Preferred Qualifications

    - Should have undergraduate and/or graduate level university teaching experience

    - Should be able to maintain the overall look, color balance, and quality for assigned products to create uniformity in all finished work

    - Should have a unitary graphical aspect in accordance with the Movie/Film/CF (with live action) determined style in all the graphic assets

    - Knowledge of classical fine art techniques is a plus

  3. Duties and responsibilities

    - Teach a range of courses from a menu of beginning to advanced classes that may include digital compositing, digital lighting, digital matte painting and/or digital cinematography.

    - Advise/mentor students in creative research and professional development

    - Collaborate with colleagues to develop teaching methods for multinational students

    - Research and service to the university, department and profession

 

3. Terms of employment

  1. Successful applicants will teach 10 hours/week of English-based classes, with opportunities for paid overtime.

  2. Summer and winter vacations will follow the university schedule, though special programs may periodically arise.

  3. University housing or a stipend of 300,000 won/month will be provided.

  4. National medical coverage and private teachers’ pension plan will be provided.

  5. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.

        - Theses (Undergraduate, Master’s, Doctoral)

        - Recent (after March 1, 2014) research articles (up to 7 articles)*

* Research articles submitted should be publicized in international peer-reviewed journals (SCI, A&HCI, SSCI or SCIE and etc.) or Korean peer-reviewed journals listed by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

Documents not written in English or Korean should be accompanied by a translation into one of these two languages.

6. Screening process*

  1. 1st stage: Review of academic qualifications, career history, and research publications

  2. 2nd stage: Invitation for a research presentation

  3. 3rd stage: Interview

  4. 4th stage: Final decision

* Following the first stage, all invitations and announcements will be made on an individual basis. Original copies of all requested documents will be required at the interview stage of the screening process.


7. Notes

  1. If no suitable applicants are found, Dongseo University may decide not to appoint anyone for the available positions at this time.
