Technical Designer - TX

Cloud Imperium Games is seeking a skilled Technical Designer to help in creating gameplay systems, exciting gameplay experiences, and interesting reasons to keep the players returning to our numerous landing zones for our ambitious space simulation, Star Citizen!


Position

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop new features for Star Citizen as they relate to the overall landing zone experience.
• Be a “go to” person for the implementation of our landing zone content. This includes but wouldn’t be limited to:
    o Design, whitebox and maintain several of the shops that players visit in the game to help create a fun, intuitive and interesting shopping experience.
    o Determine what the overarching experience would be at many of our landing zone locations.
    o Design and create content that fits within the bounds of our systemic game.
    o Documentation of the above in such a way that other people/disciplines can understand and implement content that you’ve designed.
• Be a role model within the department for cleanly implementing content with our design tools and scripting languages.
• Create logical, archetype based AI with our proprietary toolset that can be shared between our locations.
• Pitch concepts, designs and full-proposals to project leads.
• Partner with cross-disciplinary teams to execute game systems/designs.
• Have a good understanding of Visio, Word, Excel and Confluence in order to complete your design work.
• Identify and resolve conflicts with other disciplines in a way that best meets the design goals of the project.
• Review work at various stages to ensure the execution matches the goals and quality requirements.
• Routinely collect feedback from user-testing, the development team and design management. Identify solutions to the problems expressed that won't negatively impact other systems or mechanics.


Requirements

• Preferably 3-5 years of game industry experience.
• Knowledge with some type of logic based programming or scripting language.
• Detailed oriented person that can look at their own work with a critical eye.
• Must have knowledge in writing script to handle gameplay systems such as basic AI behavior, cooperative mechanics, weapons, and, scripted sequences.
• Ability to collaborate well with other team members.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Strong communicator, both oral and written.
• A passion for playing games.
• A willingness to learn new toolsets and techniques.
• Have a drive to figure out a solution for hurdles you face.
• International travel may be required as part of the role

Pluses:

• Prior experience with the CryEngine.
• Knowledge and prior experience with multiple scripting languages.
• MP debugging experience.
• A love of science fiction.
