Lead Previs Layout Artist

Cinesite Vancouver is looking for a Lead Previs/Layout artist to join us on our creepy and kooky animated theatrical feature film, “THE ADDAMS FAMILY”.
Position Overview:
The Lead layout artist will be responsible for leading a team of layout artists and working closely with the Previs/Layout Supervisor and Director in creating the visual language for the film.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with Previs/Layout Supervisor and Director in creating and maintaining the visual language of the film.
- Facilitate meetings with Previs and Layout artists to keep them informed on all film changes and requirements.
- Execution of scene staging, camera animation, composition, lensing and animation blocking with and without boards.
- Reviewing previs artist sequences and providing creative, technical feedback and mentoring.
- Camera scouting, first pass lighting and DOF in viewport 2.0 as required.
- Creation of simple temp previs assets as required.
- Stay current and provide training to team on all hardware, software and previs/layout procedures used in production.
- Work with all creative leads in development and integration of new tool sets for previs and layout.
- Work closely with all department leads and coordinators in creating and maintaining strong, open communication.
- Attend all Previs/Layout reviews and scene launches with Director and team leads.
- Assisting Previs/Layout Supervisor with final camera polish and final shot layout.
- Accountable for on time and on budget execution and delivery of previs and layout.
- Work with Previs/Layout Supervisor to control the complexity of the films previs within the scope of production.
- Responsible for communicating all red flags, changes and updates to Previs Coordinator in a timely fashion.
- Delegates work responsibly to ensure successful completion of shots across team members of all skill levels.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization or Computer Animation required or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience creating cinematic sequences for CG animation, with at least 3 years in a lead role.
- Firm understanding of cameras, staging, composition, perspective, pacing, timing, lighting and general filmmaking concepts in both animation and live action contexts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to efficiently organize, multi-task, prioritize work across multiple areas
- Ability to work solo and collaboratively, taking direction and feedback from the Supervisor and Directors.
- Knowledge of animation production pipeline an asset.
- Ability to effectively work, communicate and provide constructive feedback with all personality types.
- Energetic and positive fun attitude.
- BC residents preferred, but not required.
Your demo reel should showcase a sequence of shots in continuity. Ideally, we are looking to see original previs/layout work and not final renders from a film. Storyboard/Layout/Final Render comparison would be the best-case scenario.
