Job Description
The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) in the College
of Arts and Humanities at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks to fill
a nine-month, non-tenure earning position of instructor or lecturer to teach in
an expanding program in digital media with responsibilities located at both UCF
main campus and the downtown Center for Emerging Media. By Fall 2018, the
Digital Media Department will become part of the new Nicholson School of
Communication and Media as the university reorganizes to create a new
interdisciplinary, inter-college model. The duties include teaching a
four-course load per semester in addition to service. The anticipated start
date is August 2018.
Teaching responsibilities include contributing to the
mission of the Digital Media Department, primarily in foundational digital
skills courses.
SVAD is a large diverse unit with several majors and minors
in the following areas of study: animation, architecture, art history, digital
media, film, game design, graphic design, information design, applied design,
and studio art. UCF SVAD offers the following degrees: Architecture (B.D.), Art
(B.S., B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A.) Digital Media (B.A., M.A., and M.F.A.), and

Position Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree
(for a lecturer) from an accredited institution.
• Possess teaching experience or have demonstrated evidence
of teaching-related activities, such as workshops, training, or scholarship of
teaching and learning.
• Demonstrate familiarity with application of design
principles and fundamentals of digital media.
Preferences
Ideal candidates will possess experience in at least one of
the following areas:
• Demonstrate either teaching experience with large classes,
or a background including training in teaching such as coursework and
assistantships.
• Familiarity with current 2-D and 3-D art asset tools commonly
used in video games, web, and/or animation.
• Familiarity with a range of digital audio and/or video
editing tools.
• Familiarity with interactive design foundations for web
and/or games.
Special Conditions
This position is among those that may be based at UCF
Downtown, when the campus opens in fall 2019. Located in downtown Orlando, the
new campus will be home to 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students to study
degree programs that align with emerging industries, within walking distance of
