Senior CG Surfacing Artist

TITLE: Senior CG Surfacing Artist
REPORTS TO: CG Department Head
FLSA: Non-Exempt

As a Sr. CG Surfacing Artist, you will be part of a team that establishes looks for all characters, props and environments via painting surface textures and creating shaders. Our teams move fast; we never compromise on creativity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops surfaces and textures for characters, props and set elements that reflect a Director or Art Director’s vision
  • Contributes in establishing the look and feel of all CG projects
  • Creates and maintains 3D models as needed
  • Collaborates with CG team to ensure models maintain structural integrity
  • Assists in lighting and compositing as needed
  • Partners with CG team to troubleshoot creative and technical issues
  • Works with tools team to define, develop and implement innovative surfacing tools and techniques
  • Communicates effectively with production management, creative leads and technical support teams
  • Meets deadlines as established by production management
  • Actively safeguards HouseSpecial’s Proprietary and Confidential Information

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ Years of high-end production experience in commercials or feature films as a Surfacing Artist
  • Ability to adapt to a large variety of styles including integration with live-action, 2D, and Stop-Motion elements
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, a great attitude and common sense
  • Able to work both independently and in team settings
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, hit deadlines and maintain consistent productivity in a fast paced environment
  • Open to taking direction and able to embrace change
  • Extensive experience with Maya, laying out proficient UVs, Maya Shader networks, rendering in Maya with Arnold & Photoshop/Illustrator
  • Candidates with strong experience in painting packages like Mari, Substance Painter and/or ZBrush preferred
  • Experience in advanced surface types like global illumination and subsurface scattering a plus
  • Experienced in lighting and compositing a plus
  • Open to taking direction and able to embrace change
  • Candidates with Nuke Compositing skills a plus
  • Candidates with Shotgun experience a plus
