Compositing Department Head

Description

CoSA VFX, Inc is seeking a Compositing Department Head for its global studio, focusing on television shows and feature films and will be based in North Hollywood, CA. CoSA VFX, Inc. is a fast-paced and highly collaborative production environment with studios in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Atlanta.

Recent CoSA VFX projects include WestworldThe Orville, Gotham, and The Gifted, with a full slate of prominent television and film projects for the fall.

 

SUMMARY:

The Compositing Department Head will oversee all work being done in the CoSA Compositing Production team and reports directly to the Partners. The Compositing Department Head is responsible for setting the technical and aesthetic aspects of the overall production pipeline by working collaboratively with other departments and will liaise with the creative and technical support teams to ensure appropriate quality is attained within the budget and schedule.  This role creates and supervises the overall compositing production schedule and tasks for the Compositing department from development through final delivery. 

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

 

·       Provide upper level input regarding artist management and resource planning to the Partners and show producers. 

·       Responsible for helping develop the creative vision of the compositing department by having an oversight of the entire production.

·       Ensuring the flow of communication and the establishment of an effective workflow so that the production is delivered on time and on         budget.  

·       Responsible for revising or adjusting schedules to ensure show needs are met. 

·       Communicate schedule information to all production personnel and ancillary departments.  

·       Guide the tracking of production progress, updating production schedule on ongoing basis.  

·       Create and maintain the department budget; liaise with Accounting Department for budgetary information on department.  

·       Oversee all CoSA studio compositing teams to ensure quality and timely delivery; foster communication between CoSA studios.

·       Partner with show VFX Supervisors and Compositing Supervisors to ensure the translating of the production’s art direction, both                 creatively and technically.

·       Collaborate with Human Resources in recruitment and hiring for compositing team members

 

REQUIREMENTS:

·       Minimum 5 years’ experience as a compositing supervisor in a television or feature film environment

·       At least 3 years’ experience coaching and mentoring a team of leaders

·       Extensive knowledge of VFX production and compositing pipeline

·       Expert understanding of Nuke compositing software required

·       Proven leadership expertise; formal management training a big plus

·       Demonstrated communication, time management and organizational skills

·       Aesthetically and creatively adept; capable of producing the highest quality images
