Senior Systems Administrator


Atomic Fiction is looking for a talented Senior Systems Administrator for our Montreal studio! Applicants must have a passion for systems engineering and systems architecture, and enjoy figuring out how things work. Server uptime and artist efficiency and happiness are defining goals in this role. Reporting to the Head of Systems, the Senior Systems Administrator day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring helpdesk to support and maintain our workstations, network infrastructure and file servers. The Senior Systems Admin will also be instrumental in supporting growth and technological advancements at the studio.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a main point of contact to offer technical support to all employees in our three offices (Montreal, San Francisco, Los Angeles)
  • Troubleshoot technical issue, including all complex issues, and determine priorities
  • Support and maintain our workstations, network infrastructure and servers
  • Design network monitoring, metrics collections and custom systems
  • Recommend innovative approach to optimize systems hardware and software and related infrastructure
  • Ensure network security and maintain firewalls
  • Help setting up accounts and systems for new hires, when needed

Qualifications Include:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a systems administration role, specifically with helpdesk experience
  • High level of autonomy and initiative in order to manage tasks with a high level of complexity
  • Comfortable in Mac Os and Linux
  • Good knowledge of network protocols and switching
  • Comfortable with firewalls and network security
  • Advanced level in networking and computer hardware
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Act as a team player and enjoys working with and helping others
  • Good prioritization skills
  • Experience with modern configuration management systems (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt)
  • Familiar with systems/network monitoring and metrics collection (collectd, influxdb, graphana, sensu)
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as BASH and Python
  • Comfortable with cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Google Compute Engine
  • Passionate about working in an environment at the intersection of art and technology

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in Visual FX
