Lead rigger

Reporting to the Studio Director and under the supervision of the VFX Producer, the Lead rigger is responsible for the supervision, support and training of the riggers team. He is also in charge of creating custom rigs (characters, creatures, objects, etc.) that are efficient and of high quality for 3D animation projects for cinema, television, advertising, etc. He will also participate in the creation of tools  and the creation of custom plug-ins for the production pipeline optimization of the Character SetUp department.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Create the rigs for the animators so that they can control the frame of their character, creatures, etc..
  • Work closely with animators to validate rig performance and make any necessary corrections;
  • Work closely with modelers to monitor modeling and topology as well as blend shape creation;
  • Motivate, coach and support the Riggers team by managing aspects of skills development, career development, coaching, performance reviews and disciplinary measures;.
  • Ensure that you obtain from your supervisor all the information required to complete projects (schedules, time budget, specific agreements made with the client, visual references, etc.) and inform them of the progress of your work and of any problems or overruns;
  • Analyze projects to enable the creation of 3D characters that meet the visual, creative and technical standards of the production;
  • Ensure that their work fits into the studio pipeline by following established conventions by providing adequate deliverables;
  • Maintain and participate in the documentation of the studio according to his specialty;
  • Perform preliminary tests before deploying a new rig;
  • Once the animation is complete, perform the necessary simulations to deliver the final geometries to the lighting and visual effects departments (shot finaling).
Required profile :
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of Maya;
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge of systems, rig and principles of character movement;
  • Good technical skills and knowledge of real-time systems (game machines);
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Demonstrates autonomy, resourcefulness, organization and rigour.
Requirements :
  • College or university education in arts, 3D animation or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience as a rigger;
  • A minimum of two (2) years in a team management position;
Assets :
  • Knowledge of Python
