The Product Owner, Biomechanical Software should have exceptional skills with driving projects to completion, communication with cross functional teams, and product ownership with in a Software Development team. This role will be part of Align goal to deliver our clear aligners (Invisalign ®) and 3D scanners (iTero ®) to our customers. Quick Summary:

The Product Owner, Biomechanical Software, will be part of the Product Innovation (R&D) team in San Jose, CA, acting in the role of the Agile Product Owner for projects where the software team is the primary contributor. The team has highly talented developers with expertise in C++, Python, scientific computing and computational geometry, with a primary focus of improving and developing new customized orthodontic appliances.

• The role includes ownership of the software requirements, from initial conception, documentation, review, through development, verification (SQA) and validation
• Exceptional technical documentation skills, ability to collaborate successfully with cross-functional teams, as well as members of the software team
• In addition, the successful candidate will represent the team as a functionality expert within the company
• Agile Product Owner for projects where the Biomechanical Software Team is a primary contributor
• Work collaboratively with Product Management, Marketing, Clinical and Product/Process/Software Engineering
• Represent the team during product definition, and then translate business language to agile user stories
• Operate as a part of one or more distributed agile project teams (Scrum and Kanban) focused on research and development
• Lead sprint planning and demos
• Attend daily standups and retrospectives
• Develop use cases and functional requirements for feature development
• Create and maintain agile backlogs for one or more projects, define priorities for the team
• Draft, review and publish technical documentation including Software Requirement Specifications
• Own and maintain technical knowledge base documents, act as expert for stakeholders external to the team

Qualifications:

• Communicate clearly and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
• Understand, document, explain and discuss complex systems and algorithms
• Ability to manage and drive technical discussions to actionable conclusions
• Proven ability to write clear, precise, unambiguous and testable requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, or STEM Major, or equivalent years of experience
• 5+ years of experience as a product owner, technical business analyst, or related technical role
• Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle

Nice to have/Optional

• First-hand experience with Software Development, or Software Quality Assurance
• Certified Product Owner, Experience with Agile methodology (Scrum and/or Kanban)
• Experience with JIRA or other issue tracking software
