Career Adviser

Description

Join SCAD as a career adviser and help talented students with disabilities land their creative careers. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic career adviser with a passion for career preparation who possesses excellent communication skills, advanced levels of professionalism and the desire to contribute to student and alumni career success.

You are experienced in career advising, counseling or a related field. You have worked with diverse college-student and alumni populations, and have a comprehensive understanding of the art and design job market. You have experience working with neurodiversity and have knowledge of psychosocial and societal impacts of disability.

Additionally, you have built relationships with employers who hire individuals with disabilities and understand how they add value to the workplace. Professional dress and conduct are a must, as are proficiency with information management systems, the ability to document and report employment outcomes, strong project management, organizational and presentation skills, and the ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

In this role, you will provide individualized career advising and advance student progress through the SCAD Career Action Plan, assist students with discovering and overcoming personal barriers while setting goals, identify and build relationships with disability-friendly companies and organizations for internships and employment, set recruitment goals, host employers for virtual and on-campus recruiting visits and coordinate employer interviews. You will also advise on workplace accommodation rights for individuals with disabilities, provide coaching in effective job-search techniques, develop engaging programming and design dynamic workshops tailored to each student and alumni population.

You will also maintain, track and analyze data related to the student population with career preparation benchmarks, internships and employment during their academic careers and after graduation. Building strong relationships with alumni to increase mentoring and employment opportunities is a must, as is liaising with Vocational Rehabilitation Services and other community providers as needed to support students.

Requirements:
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work or psychology
- Master’s degree in certified rehab counseling preferred
