Associate Chair of Art History

Description

SCAD students navigate historical and contemporary expressive practices through critical encounters with art, artifacts and other forms of cultural production. In art history coursework, students gain a curiosity for creative inquiry, invention, critical thinking and visual analysis. These skills propel them into major-specific disciplines where they go on to write Emmy-winning sitcoms, design products and services recognized by Red Dot Awards and create written work honored by the Association of Writers and Writing Program.

You have an opportunity to join SCAD Savannah as the associate chair for art history. In this role, you will develop curriculum and assist the chair in evaluating professors within the department through class observations, review of student evaluations, review of service and professional development, and review of contributions to departmental goals. You’ll also teach classes annually, as assigned.

In consultation with the chair, dean and department members, you’ll develop a strategic plan for the department that is consistent with the School of Liberal Arts goals and overall SCAD strategic plan. With the department chair, you’ll provide vision and leadership for the art history department, and you’ll work with the chair and dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors. In addition, you’ll foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD art history department in academic and professional circles. You’ll also work with the admission department to recruit exceptional undergraduate and graduate students to SCAD.

Named among the best small cities in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler, Savannah offers an inviting climate and a culturally rich downtown, providing a real-world workshop for the study of art and design.
