2D Technical Director

ROLE: 2D TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

REPORTING TO: Pipeline Manager


As part of Hasbro Entertainment, Boulder Media we are excited to offer a talented 2D Technical Director the opportunity to join our very successful and established studio This individual will play a key role in establishing and extending the scripting and programming functions within Boulder Media and streamline interactions between software platforms making repetitive processes within our software programs more efficient and less susceptible to human error.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Programs, creates, and debugs various animation pipeline processes using different various languages
  • Create scripts and code to aid artists in Adobe software, Toon Boom Harmony and other 2D platforms
  • Liaising with the Pipeline Manager to identify production issues and expand the scope of new and existing scripts
  • Under guidance from the Pipeline Manager ensure the most efficient collaborative use of the 2D platforms (TBH, AFX, Photoshop etc...) in conjunction with the tracking system (Ftrack).
  • Work to improve the platform to user requirements and where needed create code and to tackle the issues. Verify and test functionality and feedback user comments (refine development if needed)
  • You will be required to develop your own knowledge, skills and techniques in relation to TBH, AFX and Photoshop and any other 2D Platforms that may be adopted in house.
  • Provide regular updates, reports and / or reviews to the Pipeline Manager as required;
  • Liaise with the Asset Manager to develop and maintain validation procedures and protocols between departments
  • Ensure proper, optimised function of the softwares deployed, troubleshoot and fix any glitches that occur and liaise with appropriate software support staff to ensure the fastest fix to any problem.
  • Provide training documentation for any new scripts, tools or processes produced
  • Ensure you remain current and up to date on the latest software versions and ensure you have all the latest information concerning relevant software programmes.
  • You must adhere to terms contained within your contract and follow Company Policies and Procedures as set out in your employee handbook
  • You must maintain a clean and tidy workstation

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • You will have a clear understanding of an animation pipeline which will allow you support the overall needs of production pipeline and toolsets.
  • 5 years’ experience in high volume, high quality, episodic animation.
  • Experience with Python and javascript
  • Experience using C# would be a distinct advantage
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Deal with technical ticketing system queries
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Highly organised and methodical
  • Knowledge of industry standard tools (Adobe Suite, ToonBoom Harmony, Nuke, Shotgun/Ftrack) desirable.
