Prototyping Leader

The Computational Media and Innovation Centre (CMIC) is a new centre within the Faculty of Engineering, which aims to develop a globally competitive research and entrepreneurship programme that facilitates the transfer of computational research outcomes into future digital media and platform for potential commercialisation and start-up businesses.

The role of the prototyping leader is to plan and coordinate various aspects of commercialisation. More specifically, considering the CMIC research outputs, the leader finds a prospective industry field where a prototype system best fits for; decides the development goals for the prototype system, supervises and manages the prototyping team, and arranges financing for CMIC's prototypes and possible startups.

This role will work closely with CMIC's Director and Deputy Director, staffs and students at CMIC, industry partners and external stakeholders to incubate a new business and commercialisation.

The important selection criteria are as follows (please refer the details from the role description):

  • Strong experiences in producing product development
  • Broad network with industries, such as entertainment, film, game sector
  • Familiarity and strong interests in Virtual and Augmented Reality, computational media, computer graphics, computer vision, machine learning, and image processing
  • Correct and fair understanding of the value of research outcomes, and media and research prototyping
  • Excellent communication skills with non-experts of the research
  • Prior experience of entrepreneur tasks including incubating and running their own business, transfer technology, and secure investment from external stakeholders for incubating business.
  • Ideally 10 or more years of industry experience or similar
  • Ideally five or more years of experience in leading commercialisation, production, or R and D team
  • Fluent collaboration skills, persuasion and cross-team diplomacy
  • Ability to work with international and industry collaborators
