Interactive Media Arts, Tenured-Tenure-Track

NYU Shanghai is seeking applicants for several faculty positions in Interactive Media Arts. (ima.nyu.sh) We are an interdisciplinary undergraduate program mixing media creation and theory, with a particular concentration in interactive interfaces, objects, and experiences. We are seeking candidates of any rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, or equivalent Arts or Industry Professor rank. Teaching experience and a commitment to undergraduate education are essential. Candidates should have a terminal degree and an ongoing research, artistic, or design practice. 

We are interested in a broad range of research interests and practices, and are looking for candidates that can collaborate with other faculty at NYU Shanghai, across a variety of fields -- computer science, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. Faculty with expertise in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:

 

Manipulation of data: machine learning; interface design; information visualization
Contemporary aesthetics: digital design or art; media history and theory; speculative fiction
Study of technology: user studies; cyberculture; digital anthropology; philosophy of AI
We are also interested in any scholarly or aesthetic engagement candidates may have with China or East Asia.

IMA faculty teach a mix of introductory courses and advanced electives, as well as mentoring Seniors in their capstone seminar. Terms of employment in NYU Shanghai are comparable to those at other U.S. institutions, and include housing subsidies. The standard course load is 4.

We have and prize diversity in our faculty and candidates should be comfortable teaching students from many backgrounds. (It is not unusual to have students from six continents in one class.) In your cover letter, please describe any experience you have had teaching in a multi-cultural or -national environment.
