Plates Lab Technician

As part of the Marvel Studios Technology team you’ll be joining a group of seasoned, dedicated technologists solving a range of interesting problems in innovative ways in an exciting and dynamic environment.

The Production Technology team at Marvel Studios is looking for a Plates Lab Technician to manage all input and output data from multiple productions and assist the plates lab data wranglers. You will be an integral part of the image and color pipeline for post-production; troubleshooting and developing workflows to provide consistency and efficient management of all first and second unit photography from multiple camera types, and ensure the accurate distribution of photographic plates (for VFX and non-VFX) to vendors across the world.

You’ll report to the Manager, Image, Color Science and Lab at Marvel Studios in Burbank, CA.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on tool development for the Plates Lab workflows.
  • Manage the Data IO workflows and processes for plates lab specialists.
  • Set up the data properly for ingest and validate files match each show’s configuration.
  • Take in new requirements for specific deliverables per show and confirm proper implementation.
  • Manage the render farm and notify users of errors with a focus on jobs pertaining to the Plates Lab.
  • Build toolsets to add efficiency and accuracy for all deliverables across multiple productions.
  • Troubleshoot and build workflows related to color management and image pipeline.

Experience and Requirements


  • Proficient linux shell and scripting experience.

  • Familiarity with live-action photography and post-production file formats for editorial and VFX.

  • Experience wrangling and transferring massive data sets in a live-action, post-production environment.

  • Familiarity with render farm software and render wrangling

  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

  • Strong user-facing skills, with the ability to understand and react to changing user requirements.


Desired Skills

  • Experience with CODEX hardware/software.

  • Worked with Qube Renderfarm Software (Pipeline FX).

  • Familiarity with DaVinci Resolve, Autodesk RV, and Foundry Nuke software.

  • Understanding of on-set, dailies, and editorial color management.
