General Summary
The Media Systems Performance Engineer is responsible for managing School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) and School of Design (SoD) software packages in a variety of academic environments. The engineer will build, deploy, and manage various packages of compatible software products in classrooms, labs, and specialized media production and post-production facilities for both SCA and SoD. They will be responsible for developing long-term software maintenance and acquisition plans for both Schools and for coordinating on-site technical support. The engineer will also manage media server systems.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Develops, executes, and maintains media production software and hardware packages in various specialized environments like classrooms and post-production labs, including compatibility testing, long-term acquisition planning, and performance optimization.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and supports shared media server hardware and software, including management of user access and content life cycles supporting campus use-cases.
- Coordinates system support, including on-site troubleshooting in active teaching spaces and crafting best-practices, FAQ, user guide, and other documentation for learning and non-expert users.
- Researches state-of-the-art software and develops relationships with software developers and vendors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- BS in Computer Science or related field (OR considerable work experience).
- 3 years experience in modern media production or post production, including modern collaborative work-flows, deliverables, and media playback technologies.
Preferred Requirements - MS in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience administering, optimizing, and implementing policy for shared media storage spaces and render farms.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Hires and manages student workers as needed.
Other Skills & Abilities Required - Must be able to troubleshoot basic to moderately complex technical problems spanning a variety of technical disciplines.
- Familiarity with the following software products: Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Media Composer and Protocols, Autodesk Maya, Nuke, and Logic.
- Knowledge of performance optimization, analysis, characterization, and benchmarking.
- Ability to work in diverse team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to educate.
Additional Information
- Duties require travel between Loop and Lincoln Park Campuses and DePaul Cinespace Studios.
- Occasionally requires off hours work, including nights and weekends.
