Writer/Editor

Description

Delivering world-class creative is what we do. Our award-winning, in-house agency leads the charge in creating smart, engaging content that embodies the SCAD lifestyle and personality — and allows SCAD to continue producing the most creative students on the planet. SCAD transcends traditional university culture with innovative academic programs, museums, film festivals, fashion shows and signature events that cultivate creativity beyond the classroom. If you’re passionate about creative, collaborative by nature, and up for the challenge to bring something special into the mix, let’s talk.

Writers use quick, creative thinking to provide a constant supply of well-written copy for use on scad.edu and in digital ads, printed and digital promotional pieces, posters, emails, job postings, slide presentations and postcards. The writer in this position will understand complex subjects promptly and have a knack for explaining them succinctly. Writing engaging headlines to draw readers into the SCAD story is a major requirement for this position. The writer will conduct interviews, perform background research, determine structure and tone to address the intended audience and write in the appropriate style. Working on tight deadlines, the writer collaborates with editorial team members, graphic designers, communications managers and others to complete projects. Proactive and research-focused, the writer seeks out details and asks questions with detective-like tenacity.

This writer is also responsible for conceiving, creating and transforming ideas into words for digital and print campaigns. Additional responsibilities could also include developing and drafting content for websites and contributing to other marketing collateral. Must effectively juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Bachelor’s degree in advertising, journalism, communication or writing plus two to five years of professional writing experience in an in-house marketing department or advertising agency environment
• Demonstrated experience researching independently, coordinating with creative team members and consolidating information into appropriate tone and message for various audiences and content platforms
• Experience adapting to meet rapidly changing deadlines and priorities
• Possess a minimum of two years of true web and digital experience using content management systems
• Experience with writing basic HTML code
• Experience collaborating with designers and developers and producing content under tight deadlines
