Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor

The Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position within the Digital Media Department starting in September of 2019. This search is part of the Department's initiative to grow research and teaching in the field of Immersive Media at Drexel. The successful candidate is expected to bring or establish a nationally recognized research program in this field and teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including in the new BS in VR & Immersive Media, launched in AY 2018-2019. S/he is also expected to engage in outreach to industry, and service to the Department, College, and University.

Qualifications
- A terminal degree in a related field required. 
- A minimum of five years of academic or professional experience in immersive media, 3D animation, visual effects, or related disciplines. 
- Research experience evidenced by publications, creative work and/or funded projects. 
- College-level teaching experience.

Essential Functions
- Teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses during a 9-month academic year 
- Establish/maintain a strong, high-quality national/international creative practice and research agenda 
- Supervision of graduate research and theses 
- Advisory assignments to individual students and student groups 
- Service on Drexel committees 
- Curriculum development 
- Special lectures for courses at Drexel; 
- Contribute to the growth of the Department and the College through active participation in the University's collaborative, cross-disciplinary, diverse work-environment; 
- Attendance at faculty meetings, commencement and other official functions; and 
- Other duties as assigned.

About the Digital Media Department: The Digital Media Department, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018, is home to a vibrant creative and research culture in diverse areas including digital animation, visual effects, virtual heritage, motion capture, virtual reality, augmented reality, interactive design, and game design. In addition to the BS in VR & Immersive Media program, the department is home to the PhD program in Digital Media, an MS in Biomedicine and Digital Media (in collaboration with the College of Medicine), an MS in Digital Media, and undergraduate programs in Game Design & Production, Animation & Visual Effects, and Interactive Digital Media. 

Courses are taught in small seminars and studio settings, featuring informative thought provoking discussions and hands-on learning by award-winning faculty and industry practitioners who emphasize current theoretical constructs and practical applications using the latest digital technologies.
