Product Engineer

POSITION PURPOSE

The Product Engineer is responsible for physical product development and management of the manufacturing process for analog game products. Responsibilities include creating manufacturing specifications and builds of materials, defining production processes, and managing pre-production activities through final production of games with external suppliers. 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage external suppliers in product development
  • Develop manufacturing specifications and BOM components for all product
  • Create initial manufacturing cost estimates
  • Recommend manufacturing processes and materials. Communicate supplier standards and tolerances
  • Research new suppliers, materials and processes

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage external production of product from product conception through finished good completion
  • Develop engineering plan with suppliers, Purchasing, Quality and Product Studio to insure manufacturability of SKUs
  • Define supplier lead-time for all products (in conjunction with Purchasing for external vendors)
  • Collaborate with Product Studio and suppliers to define and document card layouts, drop schemes, collation and pack outs
  • Collaborate with approved supplier to determine materials, production methods, sculpting, tooling, die lines, ink sets, ink sequence, paper stock, paper usages, form layouts, file building requirements, proof requirements, collation, and pack out configurations
  • Review supplier production plans, supplier cost analysis and collaborate with purchasing to make supplier selection recommendation
  • Approve quality checks at all stages of production
  • Manage communication and file transfer between supplier and Wizards
  • Attend print and pack out production approvals as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training:

Degree in Engineering, Product Design, Business or other Scientific/Technical subject or equiv. experience.

Prior Related Experience:

3-5 years required experience minimum in Production Operations in areas including: Engineering, Art Production, Purchasing, Traffic, Marketing, Prepress, Printing, and Packaging.  Logistics experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid experience in print, packaging or plastics production
  • Experience with on-site supplier production management of consumer products
  • Knowledge of game, card, book, and toy production and related processes strongly recommended
  • Must be a good communicator and negotiator with excellent people skills
  • Must be able to lead people to design and implement a multitude of tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and multitask
  • Computer literate in standard business software on a PC; knowledge of Mac design or typesetting 
  • Must have excellent eye for color, design, detail & strong esthetic sense
  • Knowledge of Wizards of the Coast and other hobby gaming products a plus
