Laboratory Technician in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Construction Informatics

Permanent, full-time

The opportunity

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Auckland is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and well-qualified Technician to work in Virtual/Augmented Reality and Construction Informatics lab, to join the team and support our research.

The Department has high quality Engineering VR/AR laboratory facilities and a history of excellence in construction informatics, with focus on research and innovation. The Department has recently developed a new research facility at the city Campus, including a purpose-built VR/AR lab. We are also commissioning a full-fledged Digital Construction laboratory in the new engineering building by end of 2019.

The key focus of the role is to assist in the maintenance and management of the virtual/augmented reality space laboratory, the digital construction laboratory, and the construction informatics area, including provision of technical assistance in the operation and maintenance of the laboratory thereby supporting the research activities of the staff and students using the facilities.

Who are we looking for?

The selected candidate must:

  • hold a professional qualification, such as BE/BTech (or higher), DipEng(Civil) or NZCE and/or trade certificates
  • relevant work experience in the field of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and other Digital technologies
  • demonstrate experience in organising and running laboratory experiments and in running health and safety inductions
  • have excellent organisational and planning skills as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
