Camera Engineer

Join the MSG Ventures team in the creation of groundbreaking immersive, conceptual, and interactive experiences. As a Camera Engineer you will assist the Lead Capture Engineer in designing, building, operating and maintaining the cutting-edge camera systems used to create content for MSG’s world-renowned venues, including the MSG Sphere.
The camera engineer manages the day to day operations related to the maintenance and upgrades of custom camera systems and is instrumental in developing and executing prototype test plans and contributing to the design process.
The camera engineer is also responsible for completing all pre-production related prep prior to shoots, including working with any freelancers for the shoot and training them in the system’s use.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS/ACTIVITIES SUMMARY:
Supports the design, development and build of novel camera designs.
Proactively manages the maintenance, trouble shooting and upgrades of camera systems
Collaborates with the capture and production groups to ensure needs are met in a timely fashion
Assists in developing and executing prototype testing plans
- Develops and maintains documentation associated with the camera systems
- Travel: As needed to support shoots.
QUALIFICATIONS:
In depth knowledge of RED DMSC2 Cameras
Knowledge of proper maintenance of cameras, lenses and cinema batteries.
Hands-on knowledge of electronic circuit design and test (including schematics, troubleshooting, soldering)
Knowledge of DIT processes and associated equipment
Knowledge of 360 VR production and workflow
Previous experience as a Stereographer or VR camera technician
Knowledge of camera array engineering principles
Knowledge or familiarity with the following software: Voysys, Solidworks or AutoCAD, Silverstack, Davinci Resolve, Mistika VR or Ultima, Nuke Cara
Must not be afraid to suggest improvements to existing systems or systems in development
Excellent critical thinking, organization skills and attention to detail
5 years or more of experience in cinema production with at least 2 years in VR
BS in related field or equivalent experience
