Assistant Professor of Animation

Assistant Professor of Animation - Stop Motion / CG – Full-Time

Laguna College of Art + Design, is seeking a full-time experienced Assistant Professor of Animation – Stop Motion/CG.  The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration and Entertainment Design.

Position Summary:

The Assistant Professor of Animation will report directly to the chair and will teach 18 units within the nine-month academic year. In addition, the Assistant Professor of Animation will be required to attend all mandatory LCAD activities and faculty senate meetings including National Portfolio Day, Industry Open House, LCAD Open House, is responsible for light administrative duties, recruitment efforts and all tasks assigned by the chair. This is a full-time position.  This position reports to the Department Chair of Animation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Teaching and Faculty Duties

·      Teaches a full course load (9 units) each semester

·      Helps create animation curriculum and helps maintain a four-year degree program.

·      Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.

·      Advises assigned students in academics and assists in registration including the review and approval of student schedules using online registration software.

·      Participates in department related functions as required, including student advancement reviews, department openings, senior reception, commencement, National Portfolio Days, LCAD Open House, and Industry Open House (IOH) events

·      Maintains knowledge in program curriculum in areas relevant to animation and foundation curriculum

·      Establishes and maintains regular on-campus office hours

·      Assists department advisers, chair, and other faculty and staff in maintaining an effective program

·      Attends faculty meetings. Serves on committees as assigned and as appropriate.

·        Bachelor Degree or combination of college level education and significant professional experience. Master’s degree preferred.

·     Professional animation industry experience as a stop motion character animator or a CG character animator on a feature film

·      Professional industry experience in one or more of the following specializations: 2D-digital animation, storyboarding, character design, layout, background painting

·     College level teaching experience

·       Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

·      Ability to collaborate effectively with administration, faculty and students

·      Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

·      Strong organizational skills

·      Proficiency in 2D and 3D software

·      Proficiency with office software

Physical Essential Functions

Siting, keyboarding, may lift up to 20 lbs. without assistance, grasping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and moving from one place to another.  This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Occasional bending, stooping and squatting
