Game Art Production Artist: Full-time Digital Art and Animation Faculty position
DigiPen Institute of Technology, Redmond, WA campus

The Department of Production and Animation at DigiPen Institute of Technology invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor of Game Art. This position is offered at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

 

Start date: On or before July 1st, 2019

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Teach team based courses in Game Art Production including 2D art production, character creation, 2D rigging, 2D animation, environment and prop design, UI design and creation, 2D visual effects, game production pipelines and team dynamics and roles

·         These courses may include, but not limited to, Photoshop, Spine, Unity, Unreal4, Premiere, After Effects, and custom engines

·         Lecture and teach in both classroom and lab settings on a daily basis

·         Grade, review and critique team project based work on a weekly basis

·         Server as a faculty mentor for students

·         Provide creative direction and critique to students as well as technical guidance for the tools required in the course

·         Collaborate with faculty to develop and improve program and department curriculum

·         Participate in teaching-related service roles , including scheduled office hours, archiving of student work, institutional and department service activities, and research/professional development

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree in art or media related field

·         Substantial experience and knowledge within the game industry in general

·         3+ years of experience with mobile and 2D and/or 3D game creation

·         A strong understanding of team dynamics, team organization, and team communication

·         Ability to give quality feedback, practical work solutions, and instruction in 2D game art and asset creation

·         Ability to communicate the basic functions of the design and programming team’s roles, tasks and expectations

·         Ability to teach specific art software skills and techniques within the game environment

·         Experience and deep knowledge in as many of these areas as possible: animation, environment and character development, lighting and color, UI, VFX, design principles, level design

·         Should have a working knowledge of game design fundamentals and best practices

·         Should have a working knowledge of a broad range of game art software

·         A Reel/Portfolio showing animation and 2d art skills

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         MFA degree in art or media/game related field

·         Teaching experience and/or demonstrated training experience

·         Demonstrable professional experience in art, not necessarily limited to computer/video games or animation
