Asst/Assoc Prof, Graphic Design Technology

The Department of Graphic Design Technology (GDT) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of graphics user experience, starting in August 2019. The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level. An appointment at a higher rank might be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants. In particular the Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop a collaborative and innovative research program in the field of applications in user experience and/or optimal customer experience for commerce.

The hired faculty is expected to show commitment to teaching excellence. She/he is expected to teach Computer Graphics courses related to principles and processes of user experience across a variety of applications at the graduate and undergraduate level, develop courses and curricula, direct students in research, and provide service to the University and community. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain a vigorous research program in the field of graphics user experience, secure extramural funding, and direct the research activities of MS students in the Applied Science and Technology PhD program. Mentoring undergraduate research students is also expected. A candidate whose teaching and research efforts will promote the mission of the Graphic Design Technology Department and the strategic vision of the College of Science and Technology (COST) as well as the University is highly desired. Collaboration with colleagues from the sciences, mathematics, and other technology areas is expected.

The College is experiencing substantial growth in enrollment, faculty size, curricula, and research.

The GDT Department prepares students to pursue technical, as well as technical management careers in all employment sectors. The program emphasizes acquisition of sound theoretical studies, as well as intensive hands-on experiences in the area of design technology. The GDT Department emphasizes development of real world competencies demanded by employers. Students receive thorough grounding in design fundamentals; technical design, media design, and graphic design. Additional emphasis is placed on courses in global awareness and management, to provide students the background they need in the economic and managerial aspects of the business enterprise.

Applicants must have a terminal degree in user experience, interactive web design, interactive media, or a closely related design technology field by the anticipated date of appointment.

Highly preferred candidates will have industry experience in user experience development, teaching experience in an accredited program, and a sustained research record. It is preferred that the applicant also have a minimum of three (3) years relevant industrial experience and a demonstrated record of independent research and publishing.
