Character Technical Director

Description

Summary:

The Character Technical Director is on the lookout for technical constraints related to the production of characters in the video game industry, but also for the new techniques used by companies in the film industry. With the help of the different teams, the TD Character will be in charge of setting the new standards, to realize and support the artistic vision of the characters.


Duties:

  • Establish the technical processes of character production as a whole in collaboration with programming, animation and rendering, all while respecting the technical constraints;
  • Set new standards, develop new techniques and processes to solve the challenges of character production;
  • Innovate and solve technical artistic problems for the development of tools used in the production of video games, in order to improve work processes;
  • Work effectively with related teams such as animators, character modelers and cinematics in the development of the character production pipeline;
  • Accurately document processes and procedures;
  • Correct errors and assess new tools;
  • Interact and communicate in an effective manner, with the administrators at the project and studio level;
  • Ensure the supervision of some members of the artistic team, if necessary.

 
Required Experience and qualifications:

  • College/University degree in 2D and 3D Art or programming field;
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in gaming or film industry;
  • 2+ years as Artistic Technical Director;
  • At least 2 published titles (games or films);
  • In-depth knowledge of written and spoken English.


Technical Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the trades related to the production of characters and cinematics;
  • In-depth knowledge of the techniques used in the film industry and / or the technical constraints of the game engines and the different gaming platforms;
  • Knowledge of software 2D and 3D computer graphics (Substance Designer, Maya, Blender, Houdini)
  • Knowledge of a source control system (ex: Perforce, Git, SVN, Plastic SCM)
  • Knowledge of programming language (C#, C++, Rust, Hlsl, Python, Vex)
