Director, Visual Effects
Description
FX Networks is seeking an experienced and multifaceted leader to join the FX Design department as
Director of Visual Effects. This position manages the in-house Visual Effects
team & all external resources (vendors and freelancers) in the creation of
industry leading CG, VFX, and animation. Projects include VFX & Finishing
on show launch campaigns (teasers and trailers), CG-intense promos, main titles
sequences, VR/AR, event promotions & installation design, broadcast brand
packaging, and more.The ideal candidate has a
passion for creative and design-driven visual effects, while possessing a deep
and thorough understanding of organization, workflows, and technologies.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, operating in a fast-paced &
challenging environment, breaking from convention, strategic problem solving,
and resourceful thinking are fundamental tenets of this position.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the in-house Visual Effects team
- Managing all VFX projects, deadlines, resources
- Working with clients and creative leads to ensure the
best possible approach and outcome on all projects – this is a crucial quality
control position.
- Sourcing and managing all VFX vendors & freelancers
- Budgeting VFX projects
- Interfacing with Senior Management, FX Networks
Technical Operations, and Walt Disney Television Operations, IT, and
Engineering in the maintenance of all VFX technical infrastructure.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and resources on the
latest and emerging VFX technologies.
Requirements:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in visual effects,
broadcast/motion design, and related fields; with a minimum of 5 years of
experience in management and production.
- Experience in team and studio management (VFX or CG Supervisor,
Sr/Executive Producer, Managing Director) or similar role strongly preferred.
- Experience in team-building and managing a diverse pool of
freelance talent is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher, strongly preferred
- Advanced knowledge of visual effects workflows, technology, and
pipelines is required.
- Expert knowledge of most industry-standard software packages:
Maya, Houdini, Cinema4D, Nuke, Adobe After Effects, VRay, Redshift, Deadline
Render.
- Must be highly technical – an advanced understanding of computer
programming (Object-Oriented, Python, MEL, Javascript), and the ability to
communicate with computer, network, and software engineers is highly critical.
- Knowledge of Adobe CC (esp. Adobe After Effects) is highly
preferred.
- Ability to work creatively hands-on is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to determine advancements in field of graphics and test
new technology, applications and operating systems for graphics groups.
