Job Title:    VP Music and Audio Media Development & Production

The Sphere is a new spherical entertainment venue crossing over the lines of traditional media and entertainment.  Space contains an external LED media plane, an internal four-acre screen, a revolutionary audio system with 184000 channels delivering beam forming audio, 18,000 seats and a massive internal volumetric space waiting for new shows, artist residencies and other forms of entertainment. 

ROLE SUMMARY:  Reporting to the SVP, Creative Development, and Strategy, this senior executive is responsible for developing the auditory content plan for Sphere and related businesses for both inside and outside the “bowl”.  Working with the SVP, as a key member of the Creative Team, the executive is responsible for producing the auditory creative content for Sphere using the embedded Holoplot beam forming technology.  Each member of the Creative Team brings an entertainment facet to the table and will be responsible for developing content, engaging talent, guiding the production and providing creative input to their peers. This role is responsible for the music and auditory experience.

He/she will have a deep understanding of current and emerging talent, strong understanding of sound and music production and an ability to bring innovative and disruptive thinking to Sphere.  Must have strong interpersonal skills to operate in a team and matrix environment, have deep relationships within the industry, and have excellent creative instincts on the material.

Specific Functions/Activities SUMMARY:  

Encourages innovation, risk-taking and powerful storytelling in crafting great content. Inspires producers and writers to expand creative production techniques and create new forms of media to create multidisciplinary content that fits the Sphere brand.

Works closely with multidisciplinary development and production teams, and partners with Ventures, Productions, Live and Technical Operations team to ensure the appropriate installation of audio equipment.

Develop audio media and experience ideas for the Sphere and “outside the bowl” experiences that originate from both internal sources and acquired pitches with the Creative team.

Project executive leadership and communicate with senior executives to convey the conceptual audio narrative, guest sound experience, and overall creative audio media design approach.

Build, maintain relationships and work closely with those in the creative community, including talent, composers, artists, musicians, orchestras, directors and third-party production entities.

Attend industry events, multidisciplinary entertainment (film, theatre, interactive, museum, festivals, animation, performance art, location-based and immersive entertainment etc) to identify and generate ideas or early acquisition or talent opportunities.

Producing Duties Include:

Leads creative music and audio media projects and works with the Creative team to appropriately direct workloads and priorities across the production department of internal and external resources to ensure all creative and production needs from the company are met.

Supervise and guide music development from development to greenlight through production in concert with the production slate.

Support legal with insight on talent negotiations, contract development, and execution of talent deals

Effectively oversees multiple project launches to ensure timely and accurate development, production and delivery of creative audio media assets for Sphere and for non “inside the bowl” experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a strategic thinker and creative problem solver, with an ability to influence, ideate and execute innovative highly creative ideas and build strong teams focused on passion, imagination and creative innovation.

Excels at executing big-picture goals while focusing on the details of creating great content

Excellent listening, interpersonal and relationship development skills. Ability to collaborate in a close creative team atmosphere.

Proven ability to communicate effectively and establish & maintain production relationships internally and externally.

15+ years of experience in music development within immersive location-based or theatrical experiences.

Strong knowledge of the mechanics of production, songwriting and audio media development.

Experience negotiating with vendors, producers, agents, lawyers, and creatives.

A broad network of composers, musicians, sounds designers and artists. Strong domestic and international industry and talent relationships across entertainment.

Expert narrative & auditory instincts, passion for pop culture, and rich knowledge of immersive experiences, music, theater, and entertainment as a whole.

Professionalism, discretion, and good judgment in all interactions with co-workers and industry professionals.

Ethical in all business dealings internally and externally.
