Finance Manager

ROLE SUMMARY:

MSG SF is a San Francisco-based creative studio that’s building the immersive entertainment experiences of the future. Our innovative team of artists, producers, and technologists are creating groundbreaking content for the first of its kind. We are looking for a Manager of Finance to support the team.

Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Manager of Finance is a generalist experienced in financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, project management, internal labor utilization and production accounting.

The day to day role will include:

Finance and Accounting: Project budget creation, developing consolidated FP&A schedules and cash flows, project scheduling, cost tracking, automation & software roll-outs, tracking internal labor and variance analysis.

Production Finance: Project administration, procedure development, setup and processing of production payroll, managing production accounting teams, performing prep and wrap production accounting functions, implementation of internal policies, procedures and controls

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS/ACTIVITIES SUMMARY:

Corporate Finance and Accounting (70%)

· Develop production budgets, identify project scope, project timeline and financial terms through internal meetings with department heads and producers.

· Track project costs and proactively identify potential overages or savings for weekly cost report update meetings with project leaders and Finance VP.

· Participate in annual budget and forecast process, incorporating consolidated production costs and cash across all projects.

· Assist Finance VP with preparation of executive level project summaries, including actuals to date, estimate to complete, estimated final costs and variance analysis as needed

· Assist with month-end close, including project reconciliations, GL coding review and analysis of monthly department variances against budget.

· Manage and update staff utilization reports, analyze and communicate data trends and anticipated overages or savings to management team.

Production Finance (30%)

· Working with freelance accountants, line producers, creative execs and business affairs prepare production budgets and cash flows.

· Implement, audit and enforce MSG production accounting guidelines and procedures while continually addressing policy changes or improvements as needed through direct management of production accounting teams.

· Assist in setup of payroll services, accounting systems, chart of accounts, user access and creation of reporting schedules.

· Administer production payroll process, review of payroll edits, coding payroll invoices and reconciling against project cost report and Oracle system.

· Perform various production finance functions including filing of insurance claims, setup of tax incentive application and processes, union audits and other ad hoc requests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Appreciates/pays attention to detail but possesses the ability to see the bigger picture and understands the relevance.

Technical/Functional Competencies

· Strong working knowledge of corporate FP&A processes and function strongly preferred.

· Experience in media production a plus (digital or animated projects preferred).

· Experience with Oracle, Coupa, Concur or Production accounting software (e.g. PSL, Global Vista, Ease, Green Slate) preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

· 4+ years’ experience and a bachelor’s degree required, Finance/Accounting preferred.

· Prior Project Management experience strongly preferred.

· Experience in annual budgeting and forecast experience strongly preferred.

· Excellent Excel skills required
